Last of April :)

Today is Bexs birthday ^^

Last day of April! How time flies!

Here are some exerts from the desk I sat at during a SPOL lecture on the 21/04.

"Pizza fetish"

"Cake is a lie"

"Time is on my side
[in different handwriting] yes it is"

"POW! [surrounded by an explosion type design]
Big Sean"

" Lenin
bread Land Water
^
Earth?
v
God
v
Jesus
^
RA"

"NUKE
THE
WHALES
WE
HUNT
THEM
AT
NIGHT"

As you can imagine, this provides me with great amusement. In addition, there are pictures of muscular torsos with rabbit heads etc. etc.

The Terrace

The Terrace is a bustling place from Monday to Friday. Everyone is walking or driving up and down, mainly in the mornings and late afternoon. There are some really nice looking cafes and coffee shops along it. I'd like to try some out one day but to be honest I doubt I ever will.... Anyway, the last two days three events have occurred along the Terrace that I have noticed. Although only one is factual. The other two are based on my assumptions. But exciting nonetheless.

The first event is the factual one and illustrated here :
It's kind of hard to see... But it was a protest.Right outside Vanessa's window. You could kind of see it from mine too, but the brick wall remained dominant. Not Good enough for a photo.

Here's something I found on scoop to explain it:

No Israeli Embassy In Wellington

No Israeli Embassy

We are protesting against Israel opening an embassy in New Zealand.

We are protesting on behalf of Israel’s forgotten and ignored victims. There are five million Palestinians Israel prevents from living in historical
Palestine. There are more than a million Palestinians besieged by Israel and desolated in Gaza. There are nearly three million Palestinians whose homes are being destroyed and land being gobbled up on the West Bank and East Jerusalem. And there are more than a million Palestinians suffering increased discrimination inside Israel.

So basically, they are opposing the embassy because of the apartheid (I think?) in Israel. You might know better of the issue than me-having access to the news-but it was pretty exciting that it was right outside!

Number two occurred this morning on my way up to uni. Well, I noticed it then anyway. There were police outside the building next to Stafford and the building had been evacuated. I heard a lady talking on the phone saying something about a bomb scare. So naturally I put the two together. I could be right or I could be wrong. It was still pretty exciting!

Number three isn't that exciting, but I figure it is mildly so. And better to have three things than two! There was a cyclist crouched on the side of the road as I walked back from uni. There were a whole lot of people around him and his bike was kind of tossed aside. I can only assume that he was hit by a car or he hit a car. But I don't think it was anything serious because there wasn't an ambulance or any huge pools of blood around.

That's just a bit of an exert from my life on the Terrace ^^

In other exciting news, Winston Peters is coming to be a speaker in my POLS lecture some time in May. Everyone is all abuzz about this news!

Back to life

Thanks for the wonderful holiday everyone! I had a great time :) Really love the South island, it's such a nice place! Even if the wind in Bluff was enough to blow me inside out...

Being back in Wellington is going well for me. It's almost as if I never left in the first place! I handed in two assignments on Monday and I have the third finished and ready to hand in today before my POLS tutorial. Although I have a Japanese test tomorrow, I feel that a huge weight has been lifted off my chest. No more big assignments to worry about for a little while. I have a POLS one due on the 21st of May and a SPOL one two days before that on the 19th of May. Other than that I have a few Japanese things to do in between due to a lack of exam but they aren't so bad. For example, we're doing a 5 minute speech on the 7th of May. We get the option of doing it alone or with a partner and I think Ryan and I will do ours together. That does mean it will have to be twice as long, but it will be good to have double the ideas and double the checking.

Last night I made fried rice for dinner. The recipe I was inspired by used salmon but I didn't have any of that so I made it vegetable and egg fried rice, topped with Japanese mayonnaise. My time in Japan has taught me a few things, one of them being that mayonnaise goes with EVERYTHING. I'm not even joking either. Anyway, the recipe I used also gives you something to do with the leftovers-make fried rice patties. I quite like that idea but the vegetables I used might be too big to do so. I might give it a shot for my lunch today.

Holidays!

Last day of uni today for two weeks. What a relief. BUT, things I have due after the holidays:
POLS assignment-1200 words, worth 25% (I think), SPOL assignment-1200 words, worth 15% and JAPA assignment, worth something like 10%. In addition, I have a JAPA progress test on the first Thursday back which is worth 24%. So I'll probably be kept busy these holidays...

I decided to quit work too by the way. Ryan helped me write a letter of resignation. I'm just really not enjoying working here. I know such job isn't SUPPOSED to be enjoyable, but I'd really rather not do it if it makes me feel such strong dislike towards it.

I hope everyone has a good Easter Friday. A nice break will do everyone good I'm sure. Safe travelling and I'll see you in a few days! :D
